OUR HISTORY
Founded in New York City in 1945, Harry Copen, a charismatic and progressive entrepreneur, set Copen on a journey to become the strong, vibrant and innovative company we are today. We have expanded over the last few decades to become the global market leader as a supplier of pocketing, linings, and waistbands. Our company has earned a reputation for innovation, as seen in it's extensive Encore Sustainability range from 1.0-3.0 which includes both recycled fibers and organic cotton. We recently launched a Performance Fabrics collection that includes Antimony Free linings as well as Anti Bacterial and Anti Microbial options.

Copen maintains its edge by providing unique products and stylistic solutions for interior garment design around the world. We have strategically located points of service from warehouses to sales offices in North Africa, East and Western Europe, Asia, US and Latin America. Our expansion over the past 75 years has allowed us to deliver our products closer to the needle point to service our customers including both global brands and retailers.
1945
Harry Copen opens New York City offices to design, merchandise, market pocketing and waistbands
in the thriving garment
district of Manhattan.
1978
Barry Emanuel joins the company as VP to expand and lead the firm to new markets and objectives under
Harry Copen.
1994
Opened Mexico sales office
and warehouse to prepare to
support for NAFTA needs
and requirements.
2004
Expanded sales and manufacturing to the Dominican Republic to provide local service to the growing
Caribbean production.
2005
Established Copen International in Hong Kong to be a hub for providing sales and service for expanding brand production needs in the far East.
2008
Avi Chamiel and Louis King become partners and formed Copen United Limited which marks the beginning of a true Global enterprise.
2012
EU and Vietnam Sales offices are established to provide local service and support for the expanding customer needs.
2013
Launch of the Encore Collection of sustainable products to be the first company to use Unifi-Repreve in pocketing. Our corporate culture began a new path towards a sustainable future.
2014
Tunisia sales office and warehouse are established
to support Western
European growth.
2015
Established new lining division in both New York and Hong Kong to sell more products to both existing and new customers.
2016
Opened Bulgaria sales office and warehouse to service Eastern Europe and Turkey.
2018
Opened Haiti sales office and warehouse to provide regional needs and growth.
